Thanksgiving started in 1620 from an autumn feast between the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians which is known as the first Thanksgiving celebrations. After this, Thanksgiving was celebrated in individual colonies. It wasn't till President Lincoln came along that Thanksgiving was named a holiday in November. There are many theories to how we got turkey as the main dish on Thanksgiving. One of those theories is that wild turkey is a native bird of the North America. As a result of this, Benjamin Franklin thought it would be more suitable than an eagle and that the Turkey should represent us. While this didn't work out, they settled for one day representing the turkey. |

This may be because Christmas is the overall favorite holiday of those surveyed (56%). Christmas decorations are one of the best parts of it all. Everyone is in such a rush to put up the beautiful decorations. Most of the people believe you should put up decorations the day after Thanksgiving(44% of those surveyed), which it makes sense to do it that way. I looked up when the ¨normal time¨ to put up decorations would be considered and it ranged anywhere between a month before Christmas up to December 9th (72.2%). |
